Rules question: are multipliers additive or cumulative? I.e. is something that is doubled then tripled rated at ×5 (additive) or ×6 (cumulative)? I like the D&D system, where they're additive not counting the original. So your example runs like this: * Starts at X * Doubling would normally add X * Tripling would normally add 2X * Thus, we get X (original) plus X (doubling) plus 2X (tripling) equals 4X total. I have no idea what's canon (I trust LH) but thought I'd mention the above in case people like it.
