Attributes: 7/7/5 Abilities: 37; none above 3 without spending bonus points Essence: 4 Charms: 28; only one can have minimum essence 4. The maximum number of charms you can have from each ability cascades down from 7. For instance, you could take up to 7 archery charms, then only 6 awareness charms, then only 5 occult charms, then only 4 sail charms. You can have 3 charms from as many ability as you like. You don't, however, have to take 7 charms from one ability. You could take 5 from 3 trees and then a 4 and lots of 3s. Excellencies count towards these totals. Combos: You have 6 points to spend on combos (you can top this up with bonus points) using the canon rules. Remember as DBs you can use your reflexive charms whenever you want without the need for a combo. Freebies: 15
Everything else as standard
Stick copies of you sheets on this thread, please

Oh, also - backgrounds? Are they as normal, i.e. 12 (IIRC)?

Oh, also - backgrounds? Are they as normal, i.e. 12 (IIRC)? Yes. For purposes of backstory, assume you all have backing - 4 (The Realm) and so have access to all of the goodies you might want just for being members of The Ebon Legion. Some backgrounds, like resources, will be useless. Don't bother with them.

Also, since this is unclear, freebies can be spent to break the limits on the number of charms per ability, but not to give you more than one charm with min essence 4

Are we capped on backgrounds at 3 as normal?
Virtues standard?
That's only 2 abilities above standard - which is not a lot for DBs with the things they have to take to fit in.

Sorry, read that back and it sounded like I was whining - which was not what I meant to do. I just mean if I'm a DB with a whole lot of experience, I'm gonna have spent some of it on abilities (and specialties), rather than focusing entirely on essence and charms. If you read the DB book you will also note that you have to take one or two dots in a significant number of abilities if we're dynasts - as well as potentially a couple of others depending on your secondary school if you read that part also.

Yes, but with the bonus essence, charms, ability points, attribute dots, and combos you don't actually need to spend your bonus points on anything other than taking abilities and background dots above 3. If you read the DB book you will also note that you have to take one or two dots in a significant number of abilities if we're dynasts - as well as potentially a couple of others depending on your secondary school if you read that part also. I read it, and I expect you to meet all of the minimums. That's why you have so many bonus dots.

hells to the yeah!
I'm going to try to get the elf to play, just so I can create a character myself.
I mean, 'with him'. Yes, that's what I'll do.

There seems to be a lot of discussion in this thread - I'm gonna post my sheet in a seperate one, with the aim of keeping it discussion free so it's clearer.

So my character is up. She's looking pretty cool to me, but she's not quite as social as I might have liked.
Stuff I wish she had (and why)
Some Integrity (Desperately) One more point in War/Awareness/Resistance (Coolness) One more Point in Performance (Neatness) More Specialties (Coolness) Compassion 3 (Character) More Background Points (Completeness) More Charms (Awesomeness)
Was thinking about changing from Daiklaves to Sai as weapon (or artifact version of Sai) just for something a bit different. If I spent two dots on a pair of Sai - would I take an off-hand penalty? Often pairs of artifact weapons eliminate this, but it might be a little cheeky in this case.

Also, I'm not happy about splitting BPs in half. If you want a 3-dot speciality in your weapon, you're just going to have to lose half a bonus point. Otherwise, seems like a cool character. Can you lmk your choices for manse and artifact (even if they're the same as previously stated; I can't remember where they were).

Also, I'm not happy about splitting BPs in half. If you want a 3-dot speciality in your weapon, you're just going to have to lose half a bonus point. Really?? We've never played that before. I don't like it for several reasons: 1. I don't think there's any implication supporting that in the rules. (I may be wrong.) 2. I don't see any reasoned justification for it - if things cost half-BPs, why can't you buy two of them for one BP? Just because they come from different abilities doesn't seem a logical reason to me. It results in the only worthwhile specialty level being 2, which is a bit daft given that the mechanics allow for three separate levels. 3. Most importantly, it will discourage people from taking specialties, which I think is a Bad Thing. It's hard enough to flesh out an Exalted character at the best of times, without devaluing this method.
