Let's at least have these before I finalise some character creation rules:
1) You're all dynasts.
2) None of you know immaculate martial arts. You know why.
3) Don't feel like you have to creat compassion 1 sadists. You do a tough job in the Ebon Legion but it's always been clear how you're helping. This mission is a new kind of tough, and it'll be good to have different reactions to it.
4) The character creation rules are likely to favour ability spread. IT will also be good if you have complimentary characters.
5) All abilities welcome. If you want to be a swashbuckling sorcerer, and use the half of the spells that seem to be exclusively usable on the big blue then go for it.
6) Different abilities necessary. This isn't just combat. It need not have any combat. You'll be the kind of people that get the job done but you can do it in any variety of oringal and interesting ways.

Earth Caste general, but also some craft type things. Actually is a bit of a bastard (my previous DBs have mostly been goody-goodies). Likes to go in and smack things down, then rebuild in the image of his own family. And he always makes sure that house Ragara get the good contracts.
Favoured - Melee, Presence, Bureacracy + All the Earth Stuff

Too many concepts for someone who's never played a DB before! But have narrowed it down to 2(ish) A) Air aspect savant/spy - knowledgeable and able to sneak in and get that knowledge. Usually part of the advance guard. Key abilities: Stealth, Thrown, Lore, Investigate. Not a big fan of the destroy everything approach - favours precision, tactical strikes on leadership. Probably of House Mnemon. B) Wood aspect tracker/scout who has no qualms over doing what has to be done in whatever fashion it has been ordered. Whilst competent in a team, is very much the sort who takes everything personally and revels in his poisonous nature. Key abilities: Survival, Martial Arts. Either an Iselsi who hopes personal glory can lead to some redemption of the family name or a Cynis who seeks pleasure in destruction.

Need to read the 2nd Ed. DB rules - BSR, I'll grab your book at some point if that's ok - but so far I have:
Female general / some-other-rank of the Ebon Legion, probably a Water Aspect (though this will depend on the new rules). Not sure what House yet - perhaps Peleps. Resigned her former life as a courtier when her son was killed following a demon-summoning gone wrong, and since joining the Ebon Legion has made something of a name for herself (and her regiment) as a demon-hunter. Hates Yozis, mistrusts demon-summoners. Key Abilities likely to be War, Sail and Melee, plus possibly Bureaucracy, Investigation, Occult and/or Lore. Oh, plus Performance I guess, since she's a ranking officer. Hmm, will have to think about that. Might be Compassion 3, if that won't break the game.
And, since there may not be another opportunity to be this flippant... "Yozis ate my baby!"
[Changed my mind about reprising a previous character. Neither of them really fit with the premise.]

Two war characters. I hope I'm not the only one who loves mass combat.

Yeah - BSR, is yours a War character as well? You said he was a general but didn't add it to his key abilities.
LH - not a problem, is it? I was assuming as part of the Ebon Legion that mass combat would be happening... Plus I think mass combat will be a lot better if we design our armies at character creation, rather than improvising when we come to fight. (And that's much more fitting for DBs than Solars anyway, IMO.) That way it shouldn't get bogged down hopefully.

Mass Combat was expected, but avoidable. Personally I love it.

I would assume that something as specialised as the Ebon Legion would have a variety of units and send the most appropriate ones/persons on any particular mission. Something like this would probably require a mix of direct assault types and scout / tactical / sapper / sneaky types.
My only concern is that if we're too different, it may be case of split party... which isn't necessarily a bad thing since we could each have different objectives to fulfil in order to achieve the goal. (i.e. direct assault on a shipyard to prevent the Lintha from docking whilst others take out the command or control centre)

Although in a one-day adventure, split party can be bad as that means people are hanging around a lot and each player only gets e.g. a third of the day to themselves. Fine if we know in advance though, 'coz then we can bring other stuff to do when our characters are off-screen.

I think if there's only three of us we should be cohesive. There can always be a force led by other DBs that we can call in if necessary. I guess the questions is are the three of us going to be the scout trio, or are we going to be the army leadership trio.
Or - and let me know if i've gone insane. Potentially we each create two characters, and play the two different trios - but the trios never meet....

If you have then it's a shared insanity - I like that idea! MPD RP is always fun, isn't it Twofor? ;D That way scouty Air-type for one, and Woody combatant for other. But yeah, I agree we should aim to be cohesive in char creation so we're not playing against each other, actions-wise.

You guys are nuts. I'm in. (Though two parties poss. threatens to extend past a day's worth of RP, I'd have thought.)

Right, scratching the previous character let me introduce (or reintroduce to Blackrat)
Cathak Garel Jadzia
A prototypical passionate Fire aspect, Jadzia grew up a bit wild, but her unshakeable loyalty to the Realm was never in doubt. She may not be a paragon of virtue but she certainly strives to emulate the Mela the Immaculate wherever possible. Though Hesieh is the more usual patron to fire aspects, she found that Mela's temprament and abilities suited her better.
Whilst at the House of Bells she concentrated much more closely on independent military operations than many of her classmates. She retains the necessary skills to lead troops, but prefers to accompany other Dynasts into tense and dangerous situations. Survivng by her wits and the mettle of her daiklave alone.
Key Abilities: Athletics, Dodge, Melee, Presence, Socialise Secondary Abilities: (still trying to decide between) Stealth, Awareness, Resistance, Integrity, War, Martial Arts, Archery

Are you gonna play Jez? That would rule.
Hence my use of the word prototypical...
