Reaction Count Grey Wolf 4 Kairos 4 Raiden 8 Zaph 4 Giant Ape 5 Apes 3
Grey Wolf has just readied flying guillotine. Raiden has just activated invisible statue spirit. Kairos has just made a hide attempt. Zaph has just made a hide attempt. The Giant Ape bursts into the clearing on it's first action. It doesn't look exactly the same as the others, firstly obviously it is much bigger - over 20' tall. Secondly it has 8 arms and 3 giant snake tails. Thirdly though it still appears to be more or less skinless there is a sort of thick bark-like quality to it's outermost layer as well. It is closely followed by perhaps a dozen of the smaller variety.
Tick Count Tick 1 - Raiden Tick 2 Tick 3 Tick 4 - Giant Ape, Raiden Tick 5 - Zaph, Kairos, Grey Wolf Tick 6 - Apes Tick 7 Tick 8 Tick 9 Tick 10 - Giant Ape

[sorry - I should have said I was doing this when you asked if I wanted to prepare anything]
As the ape approaches, Kairos recalls that he now has an adaptive camouflage system. Activiating it, he moves towards the crashing noises and to the side, crouching down in a dense bush (one with thorns that appear to be made our of the canines of various animals) and behind a tree, his armour protecting him from the teeth. Hopefully, he'll be too small to see, and the ape will run past him, giving him a clear shot at its back.
[dex+stealth = 9 dice]

[Likewise, I was hoping that with a 15-second lead-in I could use the dose of Azir's efficacious ignorance oil that I've been lugging around with me since day 1.]
[Also, can you clarify where the ape is on tick 0.]

[Kairos' hide roll: 8 successes Zaph's hide roll: 4 successes]
[You have plenty of time to take a dose of efficacious combat restorative. You now have no wound penalty, but you have a +1 diff on any roll involving a mental attribute.]
[The giant ape is still a little way from your small clearing. It seems to be more or less running through trees. It is perhaps 20 yards away still on tick 1.]
[For info when it appears:]
The Ape is wielding two clubs as larger than you are in two of it's huge arms. Four of the others hold thick tree branches, thinner and less spiky looking than the main two clubs. It wields the two main clubs as hugely powerful crushing weapons and with a gulp you realise it may be almost impossible to block them with merely a sword, even the mighty daiklaves which you wield. The three snakes that sprout from it's tail are not the small, fast brightly coloured variety of the smaller apes, but rather large thick Boa Constrictors.

[Raiden guards, until such time as the giant ape is in a good position for him to make a surprise attack.]

Two trees are knocked distinctly askew as the Giant Ape bursts into the clearing in all it's glory. It pauses momentarily and takes a great sniff of the air. It's gaze clearly flicks past Grey Wolf and the somewhat inexpertly hidden Zaph. But it doesn't focus on either of them, as it continues to assess the clearing.
This takes merely a moment though as it's first action is to throw back it's head an utter a terrifyingly loud roar. Orders of magnitude more powerful than it's bellowing as it ran through the forest.
You see the smaller apes just beginning to appear in the clearing clap their hands over their ears so quickly that you suspect they may have known what was coming. This gives you just enough warning to respond to the attack as well.
One of the smaller apes fails to complete the motion in time though and falls to the floor, blood streaming from it's ears.
[System: Ape is rolling 15 dice as a sonic attack. DV is based off Dexterity+Awareness for this attack. Damage pool will be +(target's Perception+Awareness)B in dice, bypassing armour. Declare defensive actions. Stunt/Charm etc.]

Kairos' suit beeps a warning in his ear as the first waves of noise hit him. Reacting instantly, guided only by instinct, he leaps towards the beast, Diplomacy already ahead of him, flashing gold as it cuts through the sound itself, leaving Kairos trailing behind it through a cone of silence.
By the time Kairos lands behind the ape and rolls, he has turned all of his suit's sensors off to protect him from the noise of the ape who, head still thrown back, is oblivious to the flurry of activity. Stabbing blindly, Kairos puts all of his strength into thrusting the iron sword up and forward, wedging it into the back of the ape's knee. He turns the suit's sensors back on only when the bellow becomes a scream of agony and rage, and looks with a grimace of satisfaction at the ape's already-blistering knee.
[stunting to try to use regular DV against attack
Using solar counterattack to attack with a cold iron sword, attack pool of 13, sacrificing 1 success to do 3 extra damage.
Attempting to use my previous attempt at hiding to ensure an attack from surprise]

[Cool - that'll work. Will wait for others to declare responses also before resolving. You will lose suit bonus to parry DV and attack but also suit bonus to awareness for this one action - these systems are all linked to sensors. You will retain adaptive camoflage system.
Can people make sure character sheets are up to date and that parry DV and dodge DV with current equipment are both displayed somewhere. I will be rolling all dice for this scene so I need to know your pools and stuff.]

[Raiden would like to do some kind of dodge stunt/charm and then immediately break his guard to make a surprise attack. Will that work? If so, I'll supply numbers this evening.]

[If you can think of a way to describe a dodge in order to avoid a sound you can. Kairos stunted to apply Parry DV.
You can't interrupt someone else's action without a counter attack charm - and even then their attack resolves first. You do act next though, and you will have an attempted surprise attack, as will Kairos the Great Ape did not spot either of you.
Kairos - what is your Dex+Stealth pool in your Armour?]

[How about this]
Raiden's almost ridiculously over-enhanced reactions kick in as the ape bursts into the clearing, and as Kairos draws Diplomacy he visualises the Eclipse's likely actions and plots them out, HUD-style, in his mind's eye. You can almost see the cogs whirring as his gaze flicks, lightning-fast, from the giant ape to the sword and back again, and the mental image of a perfect cone of quiet pops into his head.
He dives for the cone, before Kairos has even begun to create it; and lands in a crouch behind him, baneclaw in hand, as the ape bellows inaudibly.
[by the way - if this works do I use my normal dodge dv instead of the weird one you specify above? If not, do I still get my ebon shadow bonus to my dv, bearing in mind that it applies to join battle (i.e. awareness and reactions) as well?]

I would need to re-read the Ebon Shadow Form text to decide for certain - I would assume not. Will post resolution when Grey Wolf declares defense also.]

[Errr. So I do get to use my dodge DV, but don't get to use the bonus, even though it increases my dodge DV?]

[You would apply your Dodge DV with any bonus from EBF. If you had not applied your DDV but instead used the mentioned system you would not have applied bonuses.]
