The Ride or Sail 3 is definitely something that hurts a CofJ. They don't seem to lend themselves well to being diplomats/negotiators as opposed to messengers, scouts or thrown fighters.
On the whole, I feel the groupings are somewhat better than those for DBs but Journeys does seem to come off as possibly the weakest of the five. But that may just be a personal thing as Ride & Sail are both abilities that rarely appeal to me.

i actually really like sidereal ride charms - especially when coupled with survival. and my alt character concept is kinda based round this.
the problem is having put all my points where they need to be, i then have to be exclusively combat/social/mental - whereas i generally try to create characters who can do more than one of these things. sometimes all 3.

Ooh, on the SMA thing. With the chargen rules we've got the only possible SMA we could take would be Quicksilver Hand of Dreams, as it's the only style that doesn't have Essence 4+ as a prerequisite. Most of the other SMA's are a bit game breaking though so I guess it's no bad thing. Mind you, they're fun. Curse this fence sitting. What do you think O?

BSR - specialised is not such a bad thing for a one-off but then ideally you do want a char that is realistic and not just crafted for this one thing. JD - you've obviously looked at in more detail than I sirrah I am ok with QHoD being the only available starting style - which is really as it is meant to be. However, I see your point, so I've raised the xp to 37 which means, in theory, if you're willing to sacrifice all your xp, you can have Essence 4 and 1 SMA Charm from an alternative style to QHoD. LH - please note increased xp limit. Also, I feel I should say that your proposed Charm list includes possibly one of *the* best that could have been picked for this scenario

Yeah. ah well.
I've had a third go and dotted up a journeys i am satisfied with, though it's not perfect.
i'm wondering if it would be ok for me to take Air Dragon style Martial Arts? i will find a way to work it into a backstory if this is approved in principal.
i'm now in a quandry over whether to take a final charm with my remaining XP or to use it as I had originally thought to round out the character a little.
will post this character when my internet at home is working again.

Yeah, in principle no martial arts style is really off-limits to a Sid since they can usually insinuate themselves into any dojo. So provided the backstory fits for your character, then yeah, I'm ok with it.
If you are Gold Faction from the very beginning, though, certain Immac styles obviously become harder to explain.

My initial thoughts are that - similar to Ayesha Ura - I was once an important member of the gold faction, but have been (relatively recently) reincarnated, and hence they have attempted to apprentice me to someone in the Bronze faction. This has however allowed me to see the problems with the Empire up close and so I have decided to join the Gold Faction. The problem is that no one quite trusts me completely and so I don't have a whole lot of backing, people are waiting to see whether I stick with my decision, and whether my previous memories return allowing my take up my position again. Also people probably suspect me of being a double agent for one side or the other.

That makes sense, Bronze faction deserters are perfectly acceptable. As you say, Ayesha Ura did it

Posted char sheet, with possibly troublesome artifact at the bottom. Was thinking of switching it out for a seven section staff anyway, since they're ridiculous.

One more request folks - could I please have a breakdown (either by PM or on your posted sheets) as to where the freebies and xp have been spent. Thanks.

Added confirmed caste assignments to first post. As an added 'bonus', once I have Nick's and Ulrich's char concepts, you will each be getting a little extra... hook for the story. Check your PMs early part of next week.
