This satisfies me that min-maxing is still difficult, because it stops you taking a 3rd dot in a specialty without thinking. I hope it satisfies BR that specialties are still worthwhile, particularly if they're spread out. Yay, 1 dot speciality spending spree

In which case I am going to split my socialise specialty so that I can get my dodge specialty back.
I'd also like to point out that IIRC this is actually my first character who has started with any specialties at all.

Is anyone else taking arsenal, and should I bother? Would it be more use to bump my ally from 1dot to 2 dots?

Might do. Depends what else happens.

I did have Arsenal 2 but then thought it would make more sense for me to have Contacts (Intelligence).

I figured contacts would likely be one of the useless backgrounds along with things like resources. we've probably all got them, but we're unlikely to need or use them during this session.
plus if we each take some arsenal we can pool it to make it extra awesome.

True dat - was thinking it was prob appropriate for Cobalt to have it, particularly if we have a prelude session to see if we can get a little bit more info on the situation. If not relevant for this then will swop back to Arsenal.

Contacts would be useful. At least as much as arsenal

I was going to say "cool, I'm keeping it" but then realised that last comment is a bit of a double-edged sword... But I will keep it as Contacts

Cool cool. Yes, I think contacts makes sense.
LH, any advice on my arsenal vs second point of ally quandry? basically, under your rulings how much difference would they each make in the quality of my back up force.
i have command 2, which would also be adjusted.

Basically, if command, arsenal and ally are all at the same level, then you will have troops with standard equipment and capable leadership. Taking allies or arsenal higher than your command rating will mean you have either exceptionally good leadership (which, given the mass combat rules, will greatly improve the effectiveness of the troops) or very well-equipped troops (or well equipped leaders) Taking one or the other of them lower than command will mean inadequate leadership or poor eqipment. If you have lots of war you might be fine with that.

I assumed command would provide any troops with standard equipment, and arsenal was for stuff on top of that - or for buying artifacts for the leader.
how worthwhile are dots of command if my troops have no equipment?

I'm actually thinking of dropping Ally and Command in favour of Arsenal since Cobalt is more of a solo and support operative rather than group commander. The flip side is that the notion of having 25 capable scouts under my command is fairly enticing... but if you guys are fielding Command 2+, we probably have enough for a taskforce. I dunno.

Can I remind you guys that this is exactly why I think a prelude discussion would be useful - so we don't need to make these decisions now?
This is why I have not posted a char sheet yet. If we've given up on the prelude discussion idea, though, I will do so.
