Eventually Kairos breaks the silence left by Azir's departure by dragging Slavion's chair upright again.
'Enough of this! I'm not here for a moral debate; I'm here for answers. Beginning with Manaas' 'celestial father': who, or what, is he?'

[We seem to be getting a bit out of sequence, but whatever... while out of the room:]
"I do not agree that torture will be ineffective. Every man has a limit. This one is brave, certainly - but insulting your enemy to his face and withstanding pain are rather different things. However, I agree that it would be best to leave him alone for a while before beginning again. His blood is up. Leave him overnight without food or water. Then start again.
I do not think that having five of us question him is helping, either. He needs one person, or perhaps two, to give him their sustained attention - without interruptions."
[back in the room:]
Raiden awaits the results of Kairos' question patiently, knowing that his sorcery will be more effective than natural interrogation.

Slavion smiles. For the first time.
"So that's what your after. Ha! And I thought it was because I burned down that granary. Well sorry to disappoint you but I have no idea what-so-ever."
[He's lying.]

[Yes, this is getting very out of sequence. Can we not? Because I wanted to interject with Fox, but it's too late to do so in the in-room thread. I was trying to buy the opportunity with the out-of-room thread.]
[If people want to question Slavion right now then Fox will probably leave as he's not much use. If people agree with leaving him to stew for a while, then Fox would like to talk to him first, before the questioning starts. Can people let me know which of those it is? Alternatively, I think Manaas' dad is all we're interested in. If that's the case it shouldn't take too long to wrap up and Fox will talk to him afterwards.]
[Fox will capitulate on Raiden's point about torture for now, in order to bring the out-of-room discussion to a close and thus keep a single thread.]
[Also, Blackrat is wishing there were more than 6 compassion points between the 5 other characters in the campaign...]

[K won't be wanting to leave the room and in fact never did. He wants to find out (a) Manaas father and (b) what Slavion has been doing by way of resistance. He doesn't much care about the broader moral issues.
Although he has nothing against torturing, it doesn't seem necessary given the use of a spell that means he can break Slavion just by asking questions]

[I think we need to simlify things a bit. For now, can we consider just Kairos and Raiden to be left in the room. The others have left and are welcome to return to talk to Slavion later.
If there are other things people want to do feel free to start other threads.]

[In response to Slavion's answer] Grey Wolf throws his head back a gives a load, gruff laugh.
"Hahahahah! This fellow is very entertaining - I can see why Manaas kept him around! But not very convincing.
I think you will tell us what we want to know soon. As you can imagine, with have various methods at our disposal to get the answers we need... [stares deep into Slavion's eyes for a minute or so]
[another enemy castigating solar judgment attack, this time to make him feel fearful and ill-at-ease. I'm not suggesting torture, just trying to get his imagination working on the worst possibilities.]
[OK, I guess I don't do that..... Grey Wolf returns to the men to decide his next move]

Raiden charges across the room and punches Slavion in the stomach, hard. As he doubles over in pain (or rather, halves over, since his bonds make a proper physical collapse impossible), Raiden steps back and squats so that he is at eye-level with him. "I told you not to lie to us. You know who Manaas' father is." He abruptly stands, stalks away from Slavion, then turns to face him again, eyes blazing like hot coals. "Who is Manaas' father? Do not make us ask again." [I'll burn half a dozen motes on a first excellency investigation attack... seeing as how the sorcery evidently isn't cutting it ]

[More branching... Yay.] [I think we need to simlify things a bit. For now, can we consider just Kairos and Raiden to be left in the room. The others have left and are welcome to return to talk to Slavion later. If there are other things people want to do feel free to start other threads.] [No point - I suspect will not be worth it after the conclusion of this one.] [K won't be wanting to leave the room and in fact never did. He wants to find out (a) Manaas father and (b) what Slavion has been doing by way of resistance. He doesn't much care about the broader moral issues.] [Wasn't talking about wider moral issues. Just trying to discuss approach to prisoner. This is why PbP doesn't work - because anyone who wants to talk about the approach gets overruled - albeit accidentally - by people who just want to carry on.]

[Yeah, this thread hasn't been working very well.
Not sure what to do about it. Other than to try the slightly cleaner approach of restricting the number of people.
I think Fox would come back later - there's still the issue of theology, and the issue of limit.]
Slavion coughs up a small amount of blood. Spitting it on the floor. He stares at Raiden, his eyes burning in wordless hatred.

[Fox would; Blackrat can't be bothered as the difficulty will be so much higher. I'll just take the limit. We can say Fox tried and failed, if you like.]

[forgive my rank hypocrisy here, but can we save OOC chat for the OOC board unless it directly relates to the content of the thread? I think that'll tidy up this thread straight away. To that end, this paranthesis will self-destruct in the near-future]
'Slavion, we will break you. My words are laced with essence and you can't resist them. You know this, or can you not feel your will eroding away?
'My friends will break your physical form, but I, Slavion, I will break your mind and then I will remake it in my own image. In time, you will beg me to allow you to please me. And Slavion, I will leave just enough of you in there to look out through your eyes and see exactly what is happening.
'Tell me who Manaas' father is, on the other hand, and I will let you die with dignity. Either way I know what I need to know. The only one who will benefit from the latter course if you. You're fighting angry, Slavion. I suggest you try fighting smart'
