So... we've been doing it wrong.
We've always assumed that no combination of charms can increase dice/successes above the specified maximum for each exalt type.
I assume we based this on 'No combination of charms can increase a solar's dice pool by [ability+attribute]' (sidebar on p.165 in the core book). But the sidebar goes on to say 'Charms that add automatic successes or remove panalties do not count as increases to a dice pool unless otherwise stated'.
This would suggest that Invisible Motion, which gives 5 successes to any physical action, is not capped at giving (essence) success to an action, and could indeed be improved upon by adding up to (essence) successes using the 2nd excellency.
I can think of a few other charms this might apply to, and I'm sure people's various characters can think of some others...
Is this how we're going to do it from now on?

weird. that is somewhat surprising.
i would like to rule on a case by case basis, as i think this might make some charms way too powerful. invisible motion is already awesome....

Minor semantic quibble: Invisible Motion states 'bonus' not 'automatic'. Though I guess it implies over and above normal limits, and says 'apply to any physical action', not 'apply to any physical action not already enhanced by essence'. Think it needs a ruling though. O?
Other charms do specifically state 'automatic', and I thought I already knew those weren't subject to dice adding limits. Terminal Sanction (vs. demons) is my personal favourite. Ah well. Ho hum.

As I ruled on Sunday, bonus = automatic, so such successes (unless otherwise stated) don't count towards dice adding maxima. However, things like Invisible Motion will be capped at a maximum of [Essence] bonuses added to any given action.
