I quite like the idea of running an exalted martial arts tournament, either as part of a day of games, or on the board (since combat works very well on the boards).
I'd like it to be more than toe-to-toe fighting, so that we get a bit of variety. I'm thinking that a scenario be randomly rolled, with such results as 'race through the ruins of Rathess' or 'skyship duel' alongside classics like 'fight on a rope bridge over a volcano'. Weapons should also be assigned rather than chosen, at least some of the time.
My thinking behind this is to encourage characters with an actual spread of abilities rather than plumping for one complete MA tree and having done with it.
Is anybody interested? What do you think the power-levels should be? Starting characters are simple but probably could be overwhelmed by a variety of scenarios. BSR rules could work. I'm also tempted by the rules for creating essence 4 exalts from WOTLA, although that could get complicated...

Definitely interested in this. Should have more time for more random stuff shortly.
I'd suggest keeping it to low essence levels - max ess 4. Differing scenarios are cool idea.

While I think the idea's way awesome in principle, I think it might not be for me, given that it's a stuntfest* and I have no imagination * in that the real winner, whatever the dice say, is clearly the one who stunts best.

It does sound cool, and I will also have more time soon. We'd need to think very carefully about the rules though.

I propse a trial run, on the boards. I'd suggest vanilla character creation rules to keep things simple.
I'll try to drum up 20 or so scenarios and let people know before character confirmation, which should give us time for some confirmed sign-ups.
I'd also suggest we use something along the following lines before starting each battle
Roll D10: 1-6 use weapon and armour specified by scenario. 7; choose 2 resource dots of mundane equipment. 8; 3 dots. 9; 4 dots. 10; 4 dots and 2 dots of artifact.
Roll D10; odds you can set up simple charms before combat; evens you can't

Incidentally, can there be a random Soul-Calibur/Tekken esque plotline running underneath it all? Because their plots are always a) amusing and b) clearly written by demented children, whose style I'm sure we could imitate.
