What's not to like about Blade? It's like Marvel doing Modern-Electro-Goth-Vampire Shaft with Stephen Dorff looking like a Dolce and Gobanna model that just fell out of bed. Add some "science" to the mix and you've got a film that deserves being taken very unseriously.

Marvel can do whatevery they hell they want. If they do it as well as they did Blade well then they've made a way to wile away a couple of hours that's less boring than sitting.
About the nicest thing you can say about it is that it's an inoffensive popcorn-chewer.

With a kick-ass hero and VAMPIRES!!!
Plus let's not forget it's place in terms of comic-books over all. Here's a little history lesson for those that aren't aware;
Just before Blade was made Marvel was beginning to go out of business, the comics weren't shifting like they used to and merchandising wasn't really holding up it's end either. Marvel had had minor successes with TV shows in the past, but they never turned huge profits. Marvel films seemed to universally bomb at the box office (in part because they were very nervous about licensing their best titles) and the big DC film franchises always seemed to be market leaders back in the day.
People wanted to license X-Men and Spiderman for films, but Marvel just wasn't sure and they knew another high profile flop could kill them off. So instead they licensed Blade, one of their less well known characters to test the waters. It was successful, making big (though not huge) profits and led them to begin licensing their titles in a big way.
It was from this that the Marvel revival began. The massive films and the regeneration of their comic book empire. The Ultimate Universe, attracting big names to write their comics. Marvel now signficatnly outsells DC, and has become one of the biggest powers in the movie industry as well.
So that's another reason to love Blade. ;D

And also, if you don't, he'll kill you. Frankly, he might do anyway.

Thanks to this discussion I ended up watching Blade Trinity yesterday, and sure the dialogue might not be great, the acting much less than awesome, but it's so much fun. Plus just great action sequences.
Also they pointed out in the special features that Blade I came out a year before the matrix and used a lot of the same techniques. So it was also innovative in a filmmaking sense.

Plus just great action sequences. This pretty much sums up Blade as well. Quite fun but ultimately, y'know, mediocre. And I'm aware of it's influence (you already told me). Very early rock 'n' roll was incredibly influential, and led to all of my favourite bands, but that doesn't mean I'm going to say I want to listen to it.

I don't really remember Blade, someone show it to me. I think I saw not-the-first-one, he was black, I remember that, and killed people...

Just out of interest, why do people care about not using their real names?

Just out of interest, why do people care about not using their real names? See the "Kayfabe" thread in the General forum. Under "Organisation", probably No indeed but we might e.g. refer to each other by real names, or refer to our jobs / dwelling-places by their full names / addresses. It's possible that some people will feel this is a violation of privacy, particularly because e.g. the forum might show up in a google search about a person's name. Personally, I'm not too bothered, but I think my point that it's a lot easier to start now rather than having to retrospectively edit a billion posts later on if someone feels strongly about it.

Pah. Why would anyone worry that much about things that happen in RL? It's only a game.

But you know how seriously some losers take it. Running around, doing stuff by not rolling dice, going outside, the whole lot. And, while we've avoided it so far, some of those ungeeks might sign up here and get stroppy about it.
Before anyone comments to this effect: Yes, at some point soon we may well migrate to another forum so this point may be invalid. But
a) It'll save us having the same discussion there, and
b) Invalid this, thingysleeper.

There was a guy on the adcorp forum who googled himself. The first result was his posh senior civil service job, the 2nd was his result in a Mario Kart competition and he didn't like the justification for various professional reasons.
No amount of googling my name will ever end by finding me (just check!) so for me it's less professional concern, more having a codename makes me feek like a spy.
