I like "Kaufman". It sounds snappy like Kayfabe, and he was an American comedian (?) famous for setting up stunts on TV which seemingly broke character in unnacceptable ways that were planned by him and his apparently unwitting foils. Derivation-wise, what it lacks in the greek it more than makes up for in the indie geek irony department. For me at any rate.

And R.E.M. like him :-)
I agree.

He was also a professional wrestler. Of sorts. (No, he really was! He was the World Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion.)
I strongly recommend reading his biography, "Revealed", by Bob Zmuda (his comedic partner) and watching the film, "Man on the Moon".

was 'man on the moon' any good? i though about watching it, but it seemed like it was just iim carrey being jim-carrey-like, when he should have been being andy-kaufman-like.

It's an excellent film, IMHO. Jim Carrey is much better than usual (as he tends to be when he stops just pulling faces), and there are other great people in it too - Paul Giammatti, Danny DeVito, Jerry Lawler playing himself, etc. etc.
We should all watch it sometime.

Woo canonical inspiration! Ninja Scroll is worth a look, but I can't find RG Veda anywhere.

I'd host a Ninja Scroll Party. I'm also a big supporter of Hero.
Incidentally, the makers of Hero have got a new film coming out. Looks to be in a similar vein and the trailer was good enough to provoke a macho high five.

i am concerned by your use of the word macho. i actually didn't like hero or HoFD that much. nothing quite compares to Crouching Tiger for me. the only reason i suggested HoFD is for the Dreaming Pearl Courtesan thing near the start and the awesome Thrown stunting that goes on.

You wouldn't be concerned if you'd been there. I think I saw some testosterone dripping off our hands afterwards. HoFD is quite pants. The DPC at the beginning pisses me off because the way they use editing and cuts means you can't actually see her stricke the drum. You see her toss her sleeve out and then a shot of a sleeve striking a drum. Of course, that wouldn't stop me watching it again because.... MA films are fun Since nobody has been giving Blade beats I think I should point out that it's very mediocre.
