"Psandriel?"
I hope he responds.
"Hi, Psandriel, there's something we need to talk about. It involves Stheno. She's dead."
I look at Stheno's corpse. Or her corpse, or whatever. Shouldn't Bradley have been here by now? I go into Mark's and make a coffee. He's still sleeping off the whiskey, apparently. I wake him up and tell him I'm explaining our boxer friend, and key him in to what we're saying.
"Alright, basically we made a mistake. A stupid, horrible mistake that cost Stheno her existence. At the time we thought we had no other choice, and we thought that hundreds of people could be at risk.
"If you've seen the news this morning, all the weird stuff that happened over in [place] was caused by Stheno, going to see her client and explain she wasn't whoring anymore. She did this by sending him irrevocably insane and breaking the barrier between the spirit world and our world, letting in a bunch of ghosts that we had to get Bradley to come and deal with. I don't think she meant to; I think her lores went wrong because she was angry and afraid. She certainly didn't seem to know when to use them - she was already in line to be punished by the Tyrant on Friday for using a mind-fuck lore on Onoskelis at the court you missed.
"So we went and got her out, and prevented some murders that would have occurred as a result of the ghosts she let in. We visited her client, who now believes himself to be at least ten different people. Fortunately for us, she was out of juice. She was drained from all the horrific things that happened in her client's house, and would have to wait for the sun to rise, to take her thrall's faith, before she could use her lores again.
"I'd already told her that I didn't think she should be using her lores, or even have access to them, for a while. She agreed when we talked this over in the car. When we got her back to Onoskelis' garage, I further explained that the only way to stop her being able to use her lores was to kill her thrall. We explained that this was because we thought she was going to hurt more people. Understandably, she wouldn't give us his name.
"This is where we made our mistake. Instead of taking the situation to the Tyrant, we decided to take matters into our own hands. Suffice to say, they got out of her hands pretty fast, her host ended up dead, and we didn't think we could let her soul go, so Onoskelis ate it. If he'd failed, I would have done it in his stead.
"I realise now that we made a stupid mistake that killed Stheno. If we'd been thinking clearer, we wouldn't have tried to get the name out of her ourselves, or thought of a different way of doing things. We didn't because we thought we had no other option at the time. I'm sorry for what I've done, and I intend to never let it happen again. That's all."
I sit down on Mark's couch and start to cry again.
I hope he responds.
