Fools. Im mean...really. Haven't they noticed heaven is a bureaucracy? The moment one finds out a secret here one loses a perfectly lovely opportunity if one runs around telling everyone. And the general public only blame one, especially if one is an independent. Don't they remember what happened to Blossoming Foresight? I think she let the Chimera maul her, just to get away from all the paperwork.
If they want to struggle with die-hard principles, why don't they pop down to creation permamently and find themselves a solar, perfect in its righteousness. Surely the enlightenment of the sidereal exaltation allows us to see past pettier crimes. Or not see past them... we can see them all, every injustice, a needle in our hearts, but we can survive needles, we cannot combat every needle, we wait for bigger battles. Just as the pattern spiders concern themselves with the bigger tangles rather than the smaller knots, we can do nothing else.
Surely on the same logic, we can see past any one principle. That is why people think us cold. Unlike the solars we are prepared to do what must be done, whatever the cost to ourselves. They are only prepared to bring about their ideal world; we know we have to compromise our ideal. It's not as if any of us wanted the Bronze/Gold divisions: both sides have a clear and incontrovertible logic. But they only exist because they seek to do what they must to save heaven and earth. This helps us to see the truth, sometimes. The truth of this case was that whatever we reported to a censor would be hushed up, or at least it would affect nobody important. The attempted murder of a vizier was important: but surely reporting 'an attempt' and then just suggesting, just indirectly hinting to every vizier we met for ooh the next century that Eternal Sunshine's 'master' was behind it, would have caused him more trouble. Vizier's don't like that kind of thing.
And taking a vote about the Bureau of Seasons, a Bureau at which none of my colleagues work. An equal vote, one each, when only one of their number was going to be affected by the outcome and she could be affected very very greatly: the nerve of them. What is even more annoying is that the conspirators were not far wrong. When it started out is seemed like they were going to march on heaven, but the more we found out the less likely anything like that seemed to be. Of course they would have to have gone through (semi-)official channels, if I were to allow it to continue - no question of that, but even a gibbering idiot like Mez could see that Yushan and Creation are veering towards the seriously in trouble. Do we really want to wait until the Wyld's knocking on the Gates again before we give in and try an untested general behind the aerial legion?
Moreover if Zeran was justly convicted why are his files locked away? If Mez is so in favour of him, why would he have profited from that time? If old sidereals and senior gods were at the top of this then why try and kill a vizier: the easiest way to make us all work harder and take the whole thing personally. Perhaps it was a call for help from someone - though they nearly did murder him, so not a very good one - or perhaps they knew if they brought something like murdering one of us into it we'd, at worst, bring the case to a censor prematurely so they could hush everything up. And the bronze faction connection, denied by Eternal Sunshine? Zeran isn't properly dead, that much seems certain. Perhaps he was hidden and Mez promoted as a back up, in case of a time like this.
Still, it'll be very hard to find that out now won't it.
Anyway, after bringing the tip-off information of the conspirators to the senior Bureau people myself, very subtle for me I might add, I leg it to avoid the fall out. Hopefully I've made rather than lost friends at the top, out of all this, though that's probably not possible. I'll keep that 'boyfriend' for another couple of weeks to enhance the appearance that I'm thoroughly woven into my Bureau.
Then I might as well head to the Loom, afterall I do have a name to look up. Where is this Dawn Caste, now? It takes a while to concentrate, the phrase 'independent with a capital I' keeps popping into my head to shatter my concentration. Meditation to enhance concentration perhaps. Burn that craft excellancy to the full. Where are you my little warrior? Are you suitable for this game...
